Happy 4th birthday to 3 kittens who took over my home! 🥳 Born into the box that E made cozy for their mommy, which she actually used when the time came.

No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 - like Code Name Kids Next Door 😅
We weren’t going to keep them.
Luna wasn’t my cat (but she stayed too - the cat distribution system has spoken and she is mine).
They had numbers, not names, so I wouldn’t get attached.

And now I’m handing over $2k for emergency surgery because they’re family 🤷🏼‍♀️

This has been a journey long in the making 🎨 and I look forward to seeing and talking with you all!

I think the first painted portrait I ever did was of painter Henri Rousseau. I chose a black and white photo that I then did on a black background. 8th grade project. I recall someone saying black and white was typically considered more difficult. But I was already knee deep into that painting and no one had told me yet to see it as more difficult so I didn’t. To this day I secretly love working on black backgrounds.

This morning Russell was trying to get Fig to make a decision bewteen inside or outside. He was clearly torn, and then he saw me. He promptly placed himself at my side and sat, proud and smiling like the good boy he is. It was such a clear demonstration of, “I choose you!” And it made my day 🥰.

Sass very clearly overheard me telling Fig I’ll never question his love for me like I do with her sometimes (she’s moody 🤷🏼‍♀️). She jumped into my work chair and proceeded to bombard me with Sassafras love 😂. She needed to tell me, “I DO LOVE YOU, MOM!!!”

When meeting Figaro and discussing adoption, my main concern was if Sass was going to be too much for him. Their response: you can’t overwhelm him.

He is a husky, but he’s compromised, so I needed to be sure and they were right. He’s slightly larger visibly, but Sass has got 15 pounds on him of, I’m sure, solid muscle, and they body slam all the time 😅. Fig is made of fluff and air 😂.

I will add he is his most vocal when he needs space and Sass isn’t giving it. He comes up to me and voices ALL his grievances and I can’t help but sympathize.

When I dropped Aryah off at daycare after school Monday she announced, “I graduate in 4 days!!” Today was the day - kindergarten graduation 🥳

The first time I celebrated your birthday with you, there were tutus involved. The second year, a belated apron. (Where is that apron?) The third… perhaps no new clothing, but the unpacking of it all in a new home. Tomorrow, I’ll be sure to dress you up when we go out 😉.

I’m not sure why clothing came to mind while writing this, your taste sure is unique when it comes to that, and the complete opposite of mine. Maybe that’s the point.

I could list a hundred things off the top of my head if which we are opposites on. Many of them to do with taste. Many more to do with how we opperate. In a similar vain, when I think back, there were so many reasons I thought that you were not the one. Until I thought you were. Because of all those reasons and ways, not one of them mattered.

What does matter are the features and characteristics that would take too long to explain as Engish doesn’t contain the words for them. Feelings formed in a place that precedes language completely.

Your joy and love are unmatched and untethered; they burst from you when you see the peoplee you love, which is everyone.

I remember your tiny little face when you were born and had to bite my tongue and hold my own hand to let your mom hold you before I did. I certainly got my turn and many more.

Day 2 of enduring roofing while working from home… why I didn’t take a 3 day vacation? Good question.

Short first hike with Figaro to see how he’d do. I didn’t think distance would be a problem, he’s still built for that and speed, but wanted to see how he did on inclines, and he hopped up the rocks amazingly! Though, there were certainly some points where when I told him which direction he needed to head, he looked left and right first as if to ask, “Are you sure?” 😂

He did not like the grated stairs at all! Once he looked down, he slithered back to the safety of the ground. 🥺

This was taken exactly 10 years ago.
Possibly to the hour.

It was the last photo I took before moving from WI and has sat on my work desks since.

It is one of my favorite photos.

I remember taking it.
I remember then getting only E into my van and driving to my parent’s house to collect my dad who was coming along for the ride.
I remember knowing in my heart that everyone else would follow soon.
I remember starting the drive and thinking it was a direction I’d rarely, if ever, taken from my parent’s house.

I am so grateful my dad came along.
Not because I needed him, but because it was the greatest opportunity I’ve ever had to spend time like that with my dad.

I have no photos from that trip.

E was not yet 2.
Rear-facing, my dad and I took turns holding her little hand for hours while driving as it was all she needed to be calm.
He was never frustrated or embarrassed for a second by her behavior as some can be with toddlers in public.
He was never not relaxed and truly just along for the ride, seeing parts of the country he never had before.

He wasn’t judgmental towards me for leaving.
He wasn’t worried for me either.
For all of that I am so grateful.
As leaving was the best and hardest decision I have ever made.

Next Friday will mark the end of my third journey through The Artist's Way. Each year allows me to dig a little deeper or to find the places I didn't think needed to be dug into.

2026 WAS going to be my break year. Do something different. But as you walk on the path, the path appears, and it would only be a regret to not take the opportunities it presents to me.

So, since it crossed my mind mid-course to someday facilitate my own TAW group, and as the book would certainly predict, I was asked if next year I would be interested in doing just that.

And, since we already announced it in Friday’s meeting, I think it's safe to announce more widely that I will be facilitating Friday evenings at the Center for Spiritual Living, Tacoma!

Watch for more info in September!

We did a meet and greet with Apollo today 🩵.
He was all cuddles and loves love and I never even thought to get my own pics of him because that took up all my attention. He walked right up and just laid in my lap more than once 🥹.

10 years ago I was preparing to move away from WI, where I’d lived all my life, to the west coast. It was the hardest decision I’d made to date.

I don’t know that any area is bad for everyone, but I do believe one place is not good for everyone and I needed to leave; I was long overdue.

CA wasn’t the right place either, but it was beautiful, and a necessary stop in my journey.

While there, someone had given me the advice that at 18 months, you’re probably leaning towards staying or leaving, but at 3 years, you’ll know if it’s meant for you. I left after 3.5 years. But I was merely moving on, not back.

This guy once told me he didn’t want to date anyone with small children; that he didn’t really like little kids. He also sounded very unenthusiastic when I told him I was applying to adopt a puppy.

Now they both race to him when he gets home, and I promise you he looks forward to both of their hugs. He’s told me so ☺️. And when Aryah hasn’t been over in a while, he asks about her 🤫. It makes my heart want to burst 🥹.

(Don’t mind his face, there was a lot of motion happening and I only took one pic 🤷🏼‍♀️.)

This guy once told me he didn’t want to date anyone with small children; that he didn’t really like little kids. He also sounded very unenthusiastic when I told him I was applying to adopt a puppy.

I have been outside, barefoot, doing yard work all day in the sun. Supposedly it only got up to 60°, but it sure felt warmer, and I didn’t think I’d be comfortable in a tank top and shorts on March 1. My hands and feet are filthy and I’m not sure I could be happier ☺️.

This little visitor came by at least 3x while I was cleaning this garden bed. About 2’ from my head. It’s fascinating seeing such a magnificent, sparkling magenta in nature. Like sequins covering his head and neck.

I have been outside, barefoot, doing yard work all day in the sun. Supposedly it only got up to 60°, but it sure felt warmer, and I didn’t think I’d be comfortable in a tank top and shorts on March 1. My hands and feet are filthy and I’m not sure I could be happier ☺️.

Hike #6 for her.

Her fur seems thin, but she doesn’t ever seem cold. In addition to this she spent most of yesterday outside by choice in 31°. As in, I’d call her in, she’d reluctantly come, and then be right back to ringing the bell to be let out.

She’s also getting big - time for a new harness.

Thoughts on being “busy”.

As Brianna Weist states it - People who are constantly “busy” are running from themselves.

Busy a distraction.

There are so many people who have full lives, full schedules, and do not define themselves this way.

I am not “busy”.

I have a full, beautiful life. And I have time.

You too have time.
For all the things you want to have time for.

Things come up. Things are pre-scheduled. You cannot make time for all the things all of the time. That is not what this is about.

“Busy” comes with the pre-determination that a person is not willing to make time.

And you do make time.
For what matters.
It is a choice.
Telling someone you are busy, telling YOURSELF you are busy, is saying, “my busyness is more important.”

Is it?

The next time you’re about to say you are too busy. Stop and think if you really are. Or are you just feeling the pressure to do things society has deemed “more important”?

I have a full, beautiful life. And I have time.

It is a choice.

If you’re unhappy, this is for you, as the premis of the book is really how you live happily.

It is NOT intended to have people dislike you, but to understand it’s ok if people don’t. That’s on them.

It DOES explain why that ☝️ type of situation happens.

Sass’s first real hike! She protested after about 4 miles, when @h_steele_ came to the rescue, carrying her for about a quarter mile, and again the last half mile. Otherwise, she did really good for her first time!

3 years together.

In my mind, since we first got together, this has been the milestone to reach.

After 3 years, I believe, there’s a sense as to whether or not something is right (as long as you’re open to both being an option).

And I have never felt this consistently good.

I have told you, you were not part of the plan. It’s true. Sometimes you think you know exactly what you want and then (again, only if you’re open to it) you realize what you thought you wanted wasn’t so accurate.

I do not need you. You do not complete me.
I want you, I want to be with you, I choose you.
Without you, I will remain complete, I will remain whole, but I will lack all the good that you bring, and that amount of good is great.

I have also told you, I only want you to stay if you choose me too; if I make your life better in a way that makes it worth all of the other things that come with life. I always want to be sure you stay only because you absolutely want to; only because the amount of good I bring you is equally as great.

You have endured me traveling without you, for extended lengths, buying a house, moving, launching a business, raising children and a grandchild. You’ve listened to me express my opinion profusely about any and every thing. And we both have pasts to contend with. (This is a lot for 3 years)

You have done it all freely. I am grateful.

And fortunately, for me, I think you still like me ☺️.

We cannot predict what the future will bring, but know I firmly believe it will be even greater. I also know the power of my belief and I am more than willing to keep you along for the ride.

These happen to surround one side of my pond and can be found in other places in my yard as well. They just began to bloom and, while I was previously fascinated with the look of the leaves and stems, they now have me super intrigued! Dracunculus vulgaris, aka dragon lilies or stink lilies, smell bad to attract flies, but I’m not even upset. They can also take years, as many as 10, to first bloom and can self heat up to 65°! Native to Italy and Greece, they apparently love the PNW, so likely didn’t take that long, but nonetheless, they’re too unique to be upset about. And they only stink for a day.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARYAH!! 🎉

The best little cuddler and back seat driver is 5 today! There is so much spunk wrapped up in this tiny little person. Her wit and wherewithall are impeccable and she never fails to make me laugh with her comedic timing and tone. She’s always game for every adventure and wants to do it all!

She also never fails to tell anyone she loves them or that she missed them while they were away. Her love is BIG!

May you always go through life so completely accepting of everyone and everything, including yourself. I absolutely love how after you’re upset, you calmly explain to everyone why you were upset 😅.

April 19, 2015, 9 years ago today, I moved from WI. This is the last photo I took before leaving.

2 states later, we are all in WA and I am on my way to celebrating a home purchase next month, a website launching for my art, selling prints, and a booth at Art on the Ave in July. Not to mention the amazing trip to Cuba I recently returned from, and all the other good that has been unfolding already this year.

The synchronicities that have been falling into place over the last few months are innumerable and a cause for so much gratitude.

When I left I could not imagine any of these things were possible. I couldn’t see or even fathom of any of it in any real way. Yet here I am and here it all is 💚
